Hotel Capital Suites, Nafplio

The clients, long standing residents of the region and experienced hoteliers, wanted to create a hospitality space that would be intimate in scale and feel.

The site is a flat plot situated at a crossroads, very close to both the beach and the Old Town. Through careful deliberation with the clients and their brief, Stavropoulou Architects were able to create a harmonious building that houses eight individual suites of differing sizes.

Each suite on the first floor has a private balcony with a view of the pool and garden or the sea. Downstairs, the studios on the ground floor offer garden access, with one suite opening directly onto the pool area. Local materials are used throughout the project with an intentionally simple colour palette of earthy tones to enhance the relaxing atmosphere.

Napflio is located less than 150 km from Athens and retains its charming character; the city is well known for its historic Old Town and the Palamidi fortress.
Mycenae, a key site of Greek archaeology, is also in close proximity, as are several picturesque beaches. More contemporary additions to the region include the modern art and cultural centre Fougaro.

The area is popular with both domestic and international tourists – the clients identified space in the market for a well-designed hotel suitable for weekend trips, longer vacations, parties and reunions, to suit visitors from near and far.

This was a special project for our team – we all have ties to both Nafplion and the archaeological site at Mycenae. It was a delight to work with the clients, and together to create a space that enhances the beauty of the area. The consistently excellent reviews from visitors mention both the high standard of service and the high quality of the finish of the hotel – evidence of the importance of building a strong, collaborative relationship between architect and client.
